Qualifications:
Education: BA degree. Courses in marketing and graphic design desired.
Experience: 2-3 years web development experience with multi-faceted portfolio.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others
- Confident and quick decision-making skills
- Writing web pages in a combination of codes such as hypertext mark-up language (HTML), PHP, Javascript, XML, mySQL and Flash
- Ability to use Macintosh OS X software - Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, etc.
- Good memory, observant, detail-oriented, self-motivated, diligent, flexible, creative, organized
- Knowledge of basic e-mail applications
- Graphic design skills
Job Description:
- Working closely with Student Life at the design stage to answer questions such as: why is the site needed, who is the target audience, what are we trying to say, etc
- Writing web pages in a combination of codes, such as HTML, PHP, Javascript, XML, mySQL and Flash
- Advising on the categories and information needed to construct the site
- Designing a draft site for client approval or modification
- Using code generating programs, such as Dreamweaver
- Testing the site for functionality in different browsers and at different resolutions
- Correcting errors
Websites can be interactive, animated and contain movies, sound and video, which means the developer can expect to be involved in specialist techniques, such as digitizing old video clips or designing animations. As well as being able to design a website that looks good, using eye-catching visuals, web developers must be able to produce something that is technically sound and ensures that the user can easily access the right information.
